3.2 Post-testing discussion

1. Calculate the average velocity of the best run of the mousetrap car during the final assessment.
average velocity = (total displacement) ÷ (total time taken)
average velocity = 2.11 ÷ c6.0
average velocity = 0.35 m/s^2

2. Which part of your mousetrap car worked best? Why?

We feel that the back wheels of the mouse trap car worked the best. This is because the wheels had more traction due to the rubber back at the edge of the CDs as well as just the right amount of friction to work well on the testing ground. The diameter of the back wheels was also just right to ensure that they turned smoothly when the mousetrap car was released. If they were to be any bigger or smaller, it would have affected the distance travelled by the car. When compared to the front wheels, the front wheels were a bit too small and they had too much friction. Hence, the back wheels worked the best.


3. If you have more time to work on the mousetrap car, state what modifications you would make.

If we had more time and another opportunity to make modifications, we would try to reduce the friction between the back wheels axle and the string. This is because a large amount of friction prevented the axle from turning easily when the mousetrap car was released. This resulted in a shorter distance travelled by the mousetrap car. Also, we would want to change the front wheels as they had too much friction present which also prevented the mousetrap car from travelling a longer distance.
